Global Green Growth Week underway
Hoping to serve as a platform to bring together over 500 ministers, investors and decision makers, among others to catalyze creative solutions for transformational green growth in Africa, the Global Green Growth Week 2017 kicked off on Monday (October 17), in Addis Ababa. The meeting was held under the theme: "Unlocking Africa's Green Growth Potential".
It was Demeke Mekonnin, Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia who officially opened the event. In his keynote address, Demeke underlined the strong and long-standing advocacy of Ethiopia for green growth by fighting back the threat of climate change. He noted, Ethiopia tenaciously endorses the issues of Global Green Growth as the mainstream policy.
Abdella Hamdock, Deputy Executive Secretary for ECA remarked that Africa needs transformational leadership inside and good partnership at the international level for the realization of the green economy approach.
The Week is expected to have over 15 unique sessions and meetings which will highlight examples and success stories, like the Ethiopian Climate Resilient Green Economy Facility case, of global and African green growth interventions, policies and strategies.
