Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Demeke Mekonnen met yesterday (October 25) with H.E. Dr. Rita Bissoonauth, Director of UNESCO in Ethiopia, the African Union Commission, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
Mr. Demeke appreciated UNESCO for its continued support for Ethiopia’s efforts to preserve and protect national heritage in terms of resources and technical assistance.
Dr. Rita Bissoonauth, for her part, said the two sides should strengthen their relationship in promoting education, culture, and science.
Meanwhile,the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister also met with H.E. Sheikh Manssour Bin Mussallam, Secretary General of the Organization for Educational Cooperation (OEC).
Mr. Demeke appreciated OEC for choosing Ethiopia as the seat of its headquarters, further affirming Ethiopia’s commitment to extend all the necessary support to the Cooperation.
The Secretary General expressed his delight that Ethiopia would host the headquarters, citing numerous benefits, and expressed his hope that the Ethiopian government would support him in making the OEC’s endeavors a success.
