Biography

  • Ambassador Birtukan Ayano Dadi is State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia since May 9, 2018. Before assuming this appointment she served as Director General for America Affairs Directorate General from December 2017 to May 8, 2018.
  • She has been also an Ambassador and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Canada from May 2013 to November 2017. Moreover, Ambassador Birtukan worked as Senior Counselor in International Legal Affairs Directorate General in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as a First secretary and Counselor at the Ethiopian Embassy in Ottawa, Canada.
  • Previously she is also served as a Court Judge in Oromia Regional High Court and as a Junior and Secondary School teacher in Oromia Regional State. Ambassador Birtukan Ayano holds her Executive Masters in Governance and Development Policy and she studied Law at Ethiopian Civil Service University and earned her LLB.
  •  Ambassador Birtukan was a member of different diplomatic groups and associations. She was African Diplomatic Group vice Dean for East Africa, President and Vice President of African Women Diplomats Forum, Executive Committee of Ottawa Diplomatic Association, Executive committee of Woman Ambassadors in Ottawa and Honorary Patron for Black Business Professional woman Network Ottawa, Canada.
  • Ambassador Birtukan received a Peace Dreamers Award from Sri Chinmoy Foundation in November 2014 in Ottawa, Canada.
